Gallery History
1992년 서울에서 설립된 M갤러리는 동시대 미술의 폭넓은 흐름을 다루는 연구 중심의 전시 프로그램을 운영해왔다. 정문희 관장은 회화, 조각, 혼합매체 등 다양한 매체를 기반으로 재료성과 구조적 탐구를 지속하는 작가들을 꾸준히 소개해 왔으며, 지난 30여 년 동안 이후에 중요한 위치를 갖게 된 여러 작가들의 초기 작업을 발굴해왔다. 갤러리는 전시 기획, 출판, 아트페어 참여, 기관 협업 등 다양한 활동을 통해 프로그램의 외연을 확장하고 있다.
2022년에는 대형 공공미술 프로젝트로 활동해온 건축가 이치훈이 공동 관장으로 합류하며, 갤러리의 전시·공간 디자인 방향이 한층 강화되었다.
2026년에는 고전 프레스코 기법과 미디어 아트를 결합해 BTS의 예술 세계를 재해석하는 작가 진영선의 개인전이 개최될 예정이다. 이번 전시는 문화적 감수성과 조형적 실험을 기반으로 동시대 미술의 확장 가능성을 모색해온 갤러리의 새로운 장을 여는 프로젝트가 될 것이다.
Founded in 1992 in Seoul, M Gallery has developed a research-driven program that spans the breadth of contemporary art. Under Director Jung Moonheui, the gallery has supported experimental practices across painting, sculpture, and mixed media, with a focus on artists engaged with materiality and structural form. Over the past three decades, it has introduced early works by artists who later achieved significant recognition and expanded its presence through curated exhibitions, publications, art fairs, and institutional collaborations.
In 2022, architect Lee Chihoon—known for large-scale public art projects—joined as co-director, enriching the gallery's vision for spatial and exhibition design.
In 2026, a landmark solo exhibition by fresco artist Jin Youngsun—merging classical fresco techniques with media art to reinterpret the artistic universe of BTS—marks a new chapter, underscoring the gallery's commitment to culturally resonant contemporary practice shaped by aesthetic innovation

주요 프로젝트로는 '레인체인포레스트(2021)', '윤슬(2017)', '지붕감각(2015)' 등이 있으며, 다수의 미술·건축 전시에 참여해왔다. 전시 공간 디자인과 함께 리만머핀 한남 공간, 남해 솔라시도 정원도시의 가든뮤지엄 설계를 수행하며 건축과 예술의 접점을 확장하고 있다.
Amid increasing global attention on Korean art, Lee Chihoon joined M Gallery to explore new directions for the K-gallery landscape. His practice spans architecture, public art, exhibitions, and spatial design.
His major works include Rain Chain Forest (2021), Yoonseul (2017), and Roof Sentiment (2015), alongside contributions to numerous art and architecture exhibitions. Recent projects include the design of Lehmann Maupin's Hannam space and the Garden Museum in Solaseado Garden City, reflecting his ongoing engagement with the intersection of art and architecture.

M갤러리의 공동대표 정문희는 동시대 한국성을 재료, 기법, 이미지 등을 통해 탐구하는 작가들을 중심으로 전시를 기획해왔다. 패션 디자이너로 활동한 경험을 바탕으로 소재와 텍토닉에 주목하는 작가들을 꾸준히 발굴하고 있으며, 아나운서 경력은 전시 홍보와 해외 아트페어 참여에 중요한 기반이 되고 있다. 국제적 교류 속에서 살바도르 달리의 판화와 조각을 포함한 해외 작가 컬렉션도 확장해왔다.
M갤러리는 작가와 작품을 위한 전시 공간을 넘어, 대중과 소통하는 열린 플랫폼을 지향한다. 전시장 내 라운지는 소규모 강연과 프로그램을 위한 장소로 운영되며, 전시와 담론이 자연스럽게 이어지는 환경을 구축하고 있다.
Co-Director Jung Moonheui develops exhibitions that highlight artists exploring contemporary Korean aesthetics through material, technique, and visual language. Her background as a fashion designer informs her ongoing interest in artists working with materiality and tectonic approaches, while her experience as a broadcaster supports the gallery's communication efforts and its participation in international art fairs. Through these global engagements, the gallery has expanded its collection to include print and sculptural works by Salvador Dalí and other internationally recognized artists.
M Gallery positions itself not only as a space for artists and their work but also as an open platform for public engagement. The lounge within the exhibition space hosts small-scale talks and programs, fostering an environment where exhibitions and discourse naturally intersect.
