알랭 토마의 회화는 자연을 단순한 배경이 아닌 자체적 질서와 리듬을 지닌 생태적 우주로 재구성한다. 화면을 가득 채우는 선명한 색채와 정교한 장식적 패턴은 자연을 사실적으로 묘사하기보다, 그 안에 잠재된 신화적 힘과 기호적 구조를 드러내는 방식으로 작동한다. 동물과 식물은 고유한 상징성을 지닌 주체로 등장하며, 토마의 평면적이면서도 밀도 높은 구성은 보는 이로 하여금 현실과 환상이 겹쳐지는 경계로 진입하도록 이끈다.
그의 작품에서 자연은 관찰의 대상이 아니라 상상적 질서가 완성되는 무대이며, 각 요소는 서로 맞물려 하나의 정교한 생태적 장면을 형성한다. 원근을 해체한 시선, 과감한 대비, 반복되는 장식적 구조는 나이브 회화 특유의 직관적 언어를 현대적으로 확장시키며, 자연을 다시 '읽는' 감각적 경험을 제안한다.

Alain Thomas's paintings reconstruct nature not as a backdrop but as an ecological cosmos governed by its own order and rhythm. Vivid colors and finely orchestrated ornamental patterns fill the canvas, revealing not the literal appearance of nature but the mythic forces and symbolic structures embedded within it. Animals and plants emerge as autonomous, emblematic presences, while the artist's flattened yet densely composed spaces invite viewers into a threshold where the real and the imaginary coexist.
In Thomas's work, nature becomes a stage upon which an imaginative order unfolds, each element interlocking to form a meticulously crafted scene. His dismantling of conventional perspective, bold chromatic contrasts, and recurring decorative structures expand the intuitive language of naïve painting into a contemporary vocabulary, offering a renewed sensory experience of how nature can be seen—and read.

Times Reimagined: Contemporary Vision of Fresco는 진영선 작가가 제주 베케에서 선보였던 전시를 기반으로, 그 탐구를 M Gallery에서 2026년까지 확장해 이어가는 프로젝트이다. 진영선은 오랫동안 프레스코 회화의 시간성—습식 회반죽 위에서 안료가 스며들며 남기는 영속성과, 그려지는 순간의 단회성이 공존하는 독특한 매체성—을 중심에 두고 자신만의 회화 어휘를 구축해 왔다.
작가는 고구려 고분벽화에서 르네상스 프레스코까지 이어지는 전통을 현대적 감각으로 재해석하며, 개인적 상징과 역사적 이미지, 시간의 층위를 한 화면에 병치한다. 반복적으로 등장하는 숫자, 원형, 인물 등의 모티브는 서로 다른 시대와 의미를 교차시키며, 기억·기록·역사의 관계를 새롭게 구성한다. 이 과정은 제목처럼, 과거와 현재가 하나의 연속된 시간 속에서 지속적으로 '다시 상상되는' 방식을 드러낸다.
제주에서 시작된 여정이 M Gallery라는 새로운 문맥 속에서 다시 펼쳐지며, 프레스코라는 고대 기술이 오늘의 감각과 만나는 지점을 확장한다. Times Reimagined: Contemporary Vision of Fresco – Jin Youngsun은 시간·역사·물질에 대한 작가의 장기적 탐구를 기반으로, 관람자에게 시간을 바라보는 또 하나의 시선을 제안한다.
Times Reimagined: Contemporary Vision of Fresco extends Jin Youngsun's exhibition first presented at Beke, Jeju, continuing and expanding the project at M Gallery through 2026. Jin has long engaged with the temporal nature of fresco—a medium in which pigment fuses with damp plaster, allowing the immediacy of application and the endurance of the surface to coexist.
Drawing from both the traditions of Goguryeo tomb murals and Renaissance frescoes, Jin reinterprets this ancient technique through a contemporary lens. Personal symbols, historical motifs, and layered temporalities converge within a single composition, where recurring elements such as numbers, circles, and figures create intersections of differing eras and meanings. This approach embodies the exhibition's premise: that time is continuously reimagined, reshaped, and reread through art.
As the project transitions from Jeju to the distinct spatial and cultural context of M Gallery, Jin further expands her exploration of how material, history, and perception interact. Times Reimagined: Contemporary Vision of Fresco – Jin Youngsun invites viewers to engage with painting as a site where multiple temporal layers are held, transformed, and experienced anew.
